Day 11: Ask to do dishes at a bar

Rejection #11: Edward asks to do the dishes at a bar

Dear reader,

I host a Meetup group once a month and tonight I have around 20 guests. We meet at a bar and all of us have a drink of something, over the duration of the night.

It's nearing the end of the evening and I take as many glasses as possible up to the bar staff and ask if I can clean them. They tell me to hand them over but I say no, I want to clean them for them. But I'm not allowed behind the bar. Rejected.

What did I learn?

You can try to do a good deed and get rejected, but it's nothing against you. Sometimes what we ask in order to assist someone else might be 'against policy'. Especially if you're trying to make your way behind the bar. A good reminder not to take rejection personally.
